Just A Matter of Time

After so long, and work having started to bring the clock into repair, here is part of the email from the horologist explainating the reason for the further delay:

"Unfortunately I have been let down by my painters. The hands and mechanism covers were promised to be completed and with me by today latest however I have been chasing them and it seems that almost  everyone has taken the rest of the week off.

This means that I won’t be able to get everything  completed and be on site this Sunday. I am then unfortunately away in Greece on Sunday 30th but can allocate Sunday 14th as a revised date for installation.

I am really sorry about this and hope the revised date will be acceptable to you.

And yes , I have now included internal illumination".

More details about the clock are contained in earlier post.

Help Make Burscough Better for Young People

4/8/2017

If you are between 14 & 19 years old and want to change things in Burscough, get in touch and be part of making it happen.

Burscough Parish Council has already set aside £30,000 towards the development of facilities for young people – that could be for a youth shelter or towards a skateboard park or other facilities that people between 14 and 19 want, but we need young people to work with us to design and plan what is needed.

Burscough Parish Council wants to encourage more activities and things to do for young people, but we can’t do that for you - we need your help and involvement to know what is wanted.

  • There will be a regular meeting where members of the group plan and develop activities that all young adults in Burscough can join in
  • You will work with designers to develop capital projects such as a skateboard park (or whatever projects are decided upon)
  • You will make your own plans, write bids, raise funds and make things happen.
  • You will give your opinion about grants that the Parish Council may make for youth activities, and comment on what you want money to be spent on
  • There will be facilitator appointed to lead the group, but so we find the right person, we would like the members of the group to be involved in making that appointment

Too old for kids stuff – Too young for Pubs?
Please help make Burscough a Great Place for Everyone –

Burscough Village Clock Repair

4/8/2017

After a long wait, Burscough's Clock is now being repaired.
The clock, like most of the street furniture in Burscough Bridge has up to now been owned by West Lancs Borough Council and not by the Parish Council - hence, the repair therefore fell to the Borough Council to fund.

Some time ago the Parish Council agreed to take ownership of the clock if the Borough Council would pay to bring it back into good repair.  Finally, WLBC have found the £2000.00 needed for the replacement movement and the repair is now going ahead.

A future maintenance contract will be in the region of £250 to £300 per annum and there will still be work to do at some point in replacing the images on the column which have deteriorated with age.  This will need to be paid for from the precept paid by local residents.
