Its plinth has been raised to make it more visible and it is now joined by the sculpture of a life-size airman, placed to look towards the memorial and out over the site of the air field. The sculpture, created by sculptor, Peter Hodgkinson, was commisssioned by the Booths family. The move was required because with the bulding of the Ringtail Retail Park, the memorial's original site was no longer safe for the public to gather.
